Written for a junior string orchestra (with the opportunity for a budding violin soloist in an emotive slower middle section to show their mettle). A young person’s triumph over adversity!

Pageant

Written to challenge older young string players for pace, rhythm and (sometimes strange...!) sound.

Lost in the Snow

Retains the flow of the original improvisation. Strings tread softly through rich harmonies.

Expedition

A long journey presents many different challenges. The steady rhythm in the basses expresses continuous movement. Some of the more unusual harmonies accompany different anxieties. There is relief at the end for a safe arrival!

Fantasy for Piano and String Orchestra: Un Sorriso (A Smile)


A warm-hearted piece that is both busy and calm. The solo piano shares the limelight with the string orchestra. The hushed adagio is played as if with breath held, whilst the final movement keeps the pianist busy throughout!
