A massive ‘thank you’ to SLG-2011 : ‘Ascent’

Well..... what can I say.....?!? We stand at crossroads, about to part company on our student leadership journeys...

Thank you so much for being such a dedicated and fun bunch to work with - you have been an absolute joy! Putting up with an endless stream of emails at rather odd times of the day, you have been determined to develop student leadership further, taking on new challenges, enthusiastically pushing Newstead against the boundaries of wikis and Web 2.0 technologies. When you’re not being skiving bunkers (only joking!) you’re bonding into a really well-oiled team!

As I move on from student leadership responsibilities (I know I am leaving ‘the system’ in capable hands) I have started to reflect back to the start of my own journey: student leadership has been at the heart of my raison d'être at Newstead since you lot were in Year 9. I am not without sadness at this parting....

As I was reflecting I started to compose a piece of music that I dedicate to you all. Entitled ‘Ascent’ it tries to encapsulate my gratitude for your company on the journey, your innate optimism, good nature, and enthusiasm coupled with innumerable talents. I believe in never arriving, hence ‘Ascent’ rather than ‘Peak’ or ‘Arrival’ - I prefer an attitude of permanent ‘new beginnings’ which is much more interesting, fun and exciting. The only way is up!

I trust you will make the most of this new beginning of your student leadership journey as you rise to the challenge of this new era.
